The question
I came to the United States in 2023 on an F-2 visa as a dependent of my spouse. My spouse’s SEVIS record was terminated, and afterwards, in 2024, he filed for asylum. I am currently a derivative beneficiary of my spouse’s pending asylum application, and I have never used an Employment Authorization Document (EAD). Given this situation, I would like to know # can I switch to F-1 visa while still being a derivative?
